Our Miller and related families had strong ties to the world of ‘travelling entertainers’ as showman, acrobats, sideshow, circus and even a snakeman. In fact the family is still represented within the business today!
Charlie Miller (1894-1949) was apparently known as the ‘Snakeman’ around Bingara. Charlie and Emily nee Davis (his wife) were also known as the ‘Marco’s’ within the circuit.
His nephew Frederick Dundas Miller (1902-1945) was known as ‘Milo’. Fred’s daughter Alice was known as ‘Goldie Milo’ and she married ‘Mike Brophy’. Mike’s second wife is Norma Bibby and their family has connections to Ashton’s today. In fact on the Family Connections page you will find some listed.
Goldie and Mike’s son Fred is Fred Brophy of “Fred Brophy’s Boxing Troupe”. Even though Fred lives quiet close to use (in the same state atleast!) we haven’t had the good fortune of meeting him although I have corresponded with his wife Sandy in the earlier day’s of researching the family tree. Sandy was wonderful in sharing her information on the family and we are eternally grateful to her!
We were fortunate to spend a weekend with Fred’s brother Mick and his family a few years back and the luck kept rolling because we also met another cousin of the Burke persuasion; actually a son Evelyn Minnie Miller which was fantastic! Hope you all cross this site one day and get back in touch…
This is just a rough draft on which I will continue working, for now here are a few pictures from Emily’s photo album. Lovingly shared with us by cousin Toni in WA.
