BANNER EXCHANGE TIPS
If you are interested in hosting a banner exchange page here are a few suggestions to get you going and to assist you in maintaining a successful banner exchange.
First up is the definition of “banner exchange”
A banner exchange program is a program designed to allow marketers or in this case our family history websites to exchange banners (essentially it is a form of bartering advertising) to enable researchers to promote their family web-sites without the outlay of cash.
there is nothing more gruelling nor takky than going through constantly and checking links to find the pages are gone, moved, email has died etc:
Tips:
1. Keep your banner page and links up to date – there is nothing worse than links that go no-where.
2. You need to place a “Banner Exchange” link on your entry page, this not only makes it easy for visitors to find there way back to where they started but is also courteous to the sites that you are exchanging banners with.
3. Keep your email up to date on your web-site so that we genealogists can contact you to let you know we are interested in sharing our banners or update our url or gosh we might actually find a connection and can’t contact you because the email is invalid!!
This last point is a classic, the amount of people that don’t keep current email addresses on their sites are totally amazing they must miss out on a lot of potential family connections, don’t let that be you.
4. Enjoy genealogy!
